The Institut de Management Europe-Asie (ISUGA), established in 1990
by the Quimper’s Chamber of Commerce, specializes solely in preparing
students to conduct business between Europe and Asia, with particular
emphasis on the Chinese, Japanese, and European markets. ISUGA has a
multicultural enrollment of 150 students from 12 countries; 45 percent of
the students are Asian.
Students may enter the institute at a level appropriate to their prior
preparation, from the last year of the French baccalauréat program to the
fourth year of postsecondary education. Therefore, they may complete the
program in 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 years, depending on when they enroll. The degrees
offered correspond to the European levels L2 (2-year undergraduate
degree), L3 (3-year undergraduate degree), M1, and M2 (master).
All students in the last three years of the program alternate between
periods of course work at the institute and internships with firms in Europe
or Asia, spending up to 14 months in internships (4 months in the third
year, 4 months in the fourth year, and 6 months in the last year). European
students study in Asian universities for up to 9 months in their first, second,
and fourth years (3+3+3 months, respectively).
Major fields of study
European-Asian
intercultural management, with concentrations
in
marketing/sales/purchasing and Hotel Management.
Strengths
Student housing on the ISUGA campus; international students have priority
for the 80 available spaces.
Daily 90-minute language courses (200 hours annually) are an integral
part of the curriculum. Classes are organized by level of proficiency. Asian
students take courses in French as a foreign language, while European
students study Chinese or Japanese.
A full-time team of Chinese and Japanese instructors advises students and
helps them overcome problems in their own language.
Wireless Internet access is available throughout the institution, which also
offers 1 computer room with free Internet access.
