PROCEDURE TO ESTABLISH TITLE BY PURGED BILL OF SALE
This procedure is to be used only when the vehicle has been titled in Colorado and the State of Colorado has purged the
record from its files. Owner may
• Sell the vehicle or
• Re-establish ownership in own name
STEP
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Have the vehicle inspected and the "Verification of Vehicle Identification
Number" completed by one of the following
• Colorado licensed emission
inspection station.
• Colorado licensed automobile dealer.
• Colorado law enforcement officer.
• County motor vehicle department
DR 2395
Provide proof of ownership. If proof of ownership cannot be obtained by providing
the acceptable ownership documents, title must be established by posting a surety
bond. See DR 2922, "Title or Salvage Title Established by Surety Bond".
