MORE FLEETS ARE USING
TELEMATICS TO INCREASE
PRODUCTIVITY AND
REDUCE COSTS
CHEVIN FEET
The Fleet Technology Trends 2021 Report found an 8 percent year-over-year increase in the number of fleets using
telematics – from 64 percent in 2019 to 72 percent in 2020. According to the study published by Bobit Business
Media, 96 percent of the participants using GPS fleet tracking software found it highly beneficial to their
operations.
Customer service is among the key areas of improvement for fleet managers who adopted telematics, with 54
percent reporting a significant improvement in this aspect. Better driver safety, higher productivity, and lower
costs are some of the other benefits of fleet management systems.
Optimizing Fleet Productivity
Telematics helps fleets improve their vehicle utilization and schedule coordination, allowing them to meet more
deliveries. The technology makes it easier for fleet managers to determine which drivers and vehicles are available
at certain times, so they can schedule deliveries more efficiently.
Fleet management systems also have advanced tracking and routing capabilities that enable drivers to find the
quickest route to their destination. These functions not only help drivers stay on schedule, but they also reduce
idling time due to heavy traffic, which is one of the leading contributors to fleet inefficiency.
Reducing Fuel, Accident, and Labor Costs
The respondents of the Fleet Technology Trends 2021 Report saw a decrease of eight percent in their fuel costs,
11 percent in accident costs, and 10 percent in their labor costs.
Idling hours, according to Trucking Info, take up 20 to 40 percent of a typical fleet driver’s time on the road. These
hours use up 20 percent more fuel than necessary, which results in higher costs. Utilizing telematics significantly
reduces idling time, and therefore, fuel costs as well.
Improved driver safety is another notable benefit of fleet management systems. Telematics provides real-time,
accurate data on each vehicle’s engine, allowing fleet mana
