NO. 5051 DISTRICT 7250 CHARTERED: JUNE, 13, 1928 DATE SPONSER SPEAKER Title/TOPIC 2/13/08 Howard Weitzman Nassau County Controller President Robert Diaz introduced long time Farmingdale Rotarian Bob Nostrand who presented the Club with a beautiful slide show of his travels to Scotland and Greece. Bob is a retired architect and travels with his lovely wife Vida. Scotland has many pretty canals with locks needed to bring ships up to various water levels. The Royal Yacht, Britannia, is very luxurious and beautiful. Mr. Nostrand also singled out the Edinburgh Museum as a site worth seeing. The Rotarians saw slides of a 12th. century church and of an 18th. century castle. Greece is a country of 10 million peo- ple and is about the size of NY State. The largest city is Athens with a popu- lation of 3 million. Greece is located on the Aegean Sea. Most of the country is mountainous and white is the color of most of its buildings. The Rotarians saw slides of the Tomb of the Unknown soldier, the John Cuccia responded for the Club. He thanked Mr. Nostrand for sharing his breathtaking photography with the members. John would like to visit both Scotland and Greece. October and November are good months to visit these two countries. Parthenon, Apollo Island, Crete, and of beautiful olive groves. There is much history of the ancient Greek culture available for those who like archeology. Donkeys are sometimes used to navigate the steep hills. The Rotarians learned that Terry, the chef of Terry G’s, is of Greek origin as his folks are from Athens. . Welcome to new Rotarian Jim Carney. Jim does appraisals of residential houses. We wish him good luck in his Rotary career. The next board meeting is 2/11/08, 6:30 PM. at Pres. Diaz’s office. Calendar Kathy Firetog collected happy bucks. Ted is in the play “Parade.” Yesh was happy for the GSE team. Mike likes Mr. Nostrand’s travel shows. Frank had more than one buck left. Kevin said it is better late than never. Many were happy Giants were in the superbowl. . District will host a GSE team from 4/19/08-5/18/08. The Farmingdale Rotary Club held its weekly luncheon meeting at Terry G’s Restaurant in Farm- ingdale. President Robert Diaz presided. Robert Chapman gave an eloquent invocation. . . Ralph Ekstrand of the Breakfast Club invites us to celebrate the Chinese New Year at Lotus Gar- den. The cost is $35 a person. A Chinese auction will be held. Call (516) 655-9905.
