In February 2006, Ashbourne Healthcare achieved one of the most successful UK exits of the year, netting a multiple
of 7x capital invested for private equity investor, Electra Partners Europe. Jim Flaherty led the management buy-in team
behind the original deal, alongside partners Mark Gosling, Chee Jap and John Storey. As is often the case with the
private equity industry, key factors behind AshbourneÕs success were the established business relationships of the
parties involved and their specialist sector expertise.
Jim Flaherty was already acquainted with the team at Electra Partners Europe, through their involvement in an earlier
business venture in the healthcare sector. When that business, Principal Finance, was put up for sale in 2001, Electra
Partners Europe entered into early negotiations, but decided not to proceed. Although a deal did not come to fruition
at that time, a link had been established between the buy-out house and JimÕs team; this relationship was re-ignited
with the buy-in of Ashbourne Healthcare two years later.

home sector. They approached Electra Partners Europe in 2003 with a view to securing their support for the venture.
