Prepare Your Apartment
Unplug all electrical appliances (not your refrigerator!)
Turn off all lights.
Turn down the heat to 65-68 degrees.
Close and Lock all windows.
Take out all trash and recyclables.
Empty out refrigerator with food that will expire while you
are away; dispose of all perishable items.
Clean your apartment by vacuuming, mopping and wiping
down furniture.
Turn off your alarm clock.
Protest Your Belongings
Close and Lock all windows.
Have the last person leave arm the apartment alarm.
Take precautions to secure valuables and take portable items
with you while properly securing those items left behind.
Speak with your roommates concerning the break. Discuss
their plans and offer yours.
If you are leaving a vehicle on the property during the break
make sure to remove all items stored in the vehicle out of
sight and make sure your decal is properly displayed.
If you have a bicycle on the property make sure it is secured
on a bike rack.
