Mission Director
Summary
The Mission Director will likely be the executive officer of The Mission and Chairs
its Board of Governors. He/she shall have the responsibility to promote the
development of a strong, well-managed Mission having the capacity to respond
effectively to its principal area of concern: delivering services to the poor and
homeless of the city. The Mission Director shall be either an ordained or a
commissioned minister serving The ___________________________________
Church. She/he shall be hired by two-thirds vote of the church membership, following
recommendations of a Search Committee appointed by the Church Council. Two
members of the Mission Board’s own choosing will be invited to full participation and
membership on the Search Committee.
A. Qualifications
1. Education/Experience:
Master of Divinity, or related degree; ordained, licensed, or commis-
sioned minister. Three to five years management experience, preferably
in church-related community setting.
2. Other Qualifications:
Good communication, staff development, program development, and
community organization skills required.
B. Organizational Relationships
1. Reports to:
a. Church Council of The _____________________________ Church.
b. Board of Governors of the Mission.
2. Directs or Oversees:
a. Directs and supervises the Shelter Director through individual and
weekly management meetings.
b. Directs the duties of the Financial Officer.
c. Oversees Volunteer and In-Service Training Programs.
d. Oversees Affiliation Agreements and Contracts with Human Service
agencies.
e. Directs all fund-raising efforts.
3. Coordinates with:
a. Moderator of the Church Council.
b. Local and Regional Denominational Headquarters
