God Created the Earth and Light
In the Beginning Series: Lesson #1
Bible Verse: God created light. Genesis 1:3
Bible Story for children:
God is the creator of our world. Everything God created was good.
Prop ideas: Light of some sort: flashlight, lamp, lightbrite toy
A black piece of paper and a bright yellow or white piece of paper
Felt storyboard or a poster board to be used each week for the 7 days of
Empty container or bag
The Bible tells us, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was formless and empty.” (That means that it had no shape and
that there was nothing in it). Darkness was all over. If you had been born
and were alive before the earth began, you would not have been able to see
anything because it was dark. Darkness was covering everything. (Show
Then God said, “Let there be light.” And guess what? There was light. (Turn
on a flashlight for effect). That’s all God had to do to create light. (Show
white or yellow paper). He spoke, and it came to be. The Bible tells us that
God saw that the light was good. God called the light day (show white or
yellow paper) and the dark night (show black paper). So there was an
evening (nighttime) and morning (daytime) and that was the first day.

Guessing “What’s in the Bag”
Singing and Praising
Playing Color Matching
When finished with activities, return
all necessary items to bag and place
in the hallway for pickup.
TEACHER EXTRA ACTIVITES:
Bring different kinds of lights: Lava lamp (cool touch only), disco,
nightlight, candle, large flashlight, lantern, fiberoptic light.
Bring a prism and show how to make a rainbow of light.
Use caution when showing these items. Keep out of reach when not in use.
NO BURNING CANDLES. If your class is large and you have little help or
children are unsettled, do not display or show items that could be
dangerous. Remember Safety First.
