Be thankful for Jesus just as Anna and Simeon were thankful.
Prop ideas: Baby doll to hold as you repeat the Blessing/prophesy of Simeon and Anna
(Let children repeat Bible verse as they hold the baby).
Come dressed in character as Simeon or Anna and tell story from their
Seven days after the baby was born, Mary and Joseph had a special
ceremony to name him Jesus, just as the angel had told them. Forty days
after he was born, Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem
to be presented to the Lord. God required new parents to bring their
children to the Temple and give offerings for them. Mary and Joseph
obeyed the laws of God and did what was required.
There was a man at the Temple named Simeon who was a righteous man
and full of the Holy Spirit. It had been revealed to him that he would not die
until after he had seen the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ. As Mary and
Joseph brought baby Jesus into the Temple, Simeon knew that this baby
was the one God had sent and promised to be the Savior. Simeon took baby
Jesus into his arms and praised God. He said, “Just as you have promised,
oh Lord, I have seen your salvation.” Simeon spoke a blessing on Jesus and
his mother and father.
There was also a prophetess named Anna who was at the Temple. She was
very old and her husband had died many years ago. Anna was always there.
She worshiped day and night, fasting (going without eating) and praying.
When Anna saw the baby she said, “Thank you God for Jesus.” Luke
2:38 She said many wonderful things about Jesus, the Savior of the world.
Mary and Joseph were amazed at everything that was said about their baby
