O
n October 19th and 20th, the Black Nurses
Association of Indiana hosted a luncheon
and fundraising dinner for the Health and Social
Services Sector of the Republic of Liberia, especially,
the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center. The
Minister of Health and Social Welfare and Chief
Medical Officer of Liberia Dr. Walter Gwenigale and
J.F.K.C’s Chief executive officer Mrs. Wvannie May
Scott, were the honored guests.
During the luncheon, President Karmo praised
Friends of Liberia for their continued investments
and contributions to the plight of our native land.
He appealed to humanitarian groups, religious and
social organizations, business institutions, local com-
munities within the state of Indiana and United
States of America for funding to purchase a building
that will house a community information center,
child care, adult literacy program for new and re-
settled immigrants and, other cultural activities and
advocacy. He extended sincere thanks to members
of his local community for their support and contri-
butions to the rally for the rehabilitation of the
health system in Liberia. President Karmo also ap-
pealed to the African American communities in and
out of the United States of America to begin think-
ing of their heritage; from Mississippi, South Caro-
lina, Alabama and Georgia back to a country now

extends a sincere thanks to the Liberian
community for their effort in contributing
to this project. We are currently
working with the Assistant Minister of
Education of Liberia to secure delivery of
the items to Nimba county as agreed
to in the last general meeting. It is our
goal to have the supplies delivered
before Christmas or after the New Year.
