Adult Length: 12-16 inches
Feeding Habits: Flake food, fresh spinach, zucchini, peas and lettuce. Frozen plankton,
vegetable diet, daphnia, beef heart, brine shrimp, glass worms and blood worms. Tablet
and Pellet foods also accepted. Live plants will be eaten, so use as a food source.
Compatibility: A peaceful and schooling fish that mixes well with other goldfish. Ideal
for a garden pond.
Habitat: China, Moderately decorated with rocks, plastic plants and driftwood. Breeding
During the spawning season the male will have tubercles (small white dots, not to be
confused with the disease ich) on their head, pectoral fins and gill covers. Thousands of
eggs are produced and the parents are veracious egg eaters and must be removed
immediately after spawning.
Housing: Goldfish are freshwater fish. They can be kept in either ponds or aquariums. If
kept in an aquarium please allow for 1 gallon of water per 1 inch of fish. If kept in a pond
make sure your pond is over 3ft. deep to allow for the successful wintering of your
animals. If your pond is less than 3ft. deep you should bring you fish in for the winter
until your pond thaws in the spring.
Other notes: They will grow in proportion to the surroundings. They are hardy and
peaceful. Average life span can be as long as 15-25 years.
