VERSE SPEAKING
Poems should be announced by the competitor naming
the title and author. Timing of „own choice‟ poems starts after this
announcement. Verse should normally be spoken from memory.
Class 1. Verse Speaking - 6 years and under
Test Piece : Own choice, not to exceed 2 minutes.
Prize : Winner will hold The Lucy Cork Trophy for one year.
Class 2. Verse Speaking - 7 years and under
Test Piece: “A Dragon in the Classroom” by Charles Thomson
[One Hundred Best Poems for Children]
Prize: Winner will hold a Festival Trophy for one year.
Class 3. Verse Speaking - 7 years
Test Piece : Own Choice, not to exceed 2 minutes.
Prize : Winner will hold the Clowes Trophy for one year.
Class 4. Verse Speaking - 8 years
Test Piece : “Greedy Dog” by James Hurley [One Hundred Best Poems for Children]
Prize : Winner will hold a Festival Trophy for one year.
Class 5. Verse Speaking - 8 years
Test Piece : Own choice, not to exceed 2 minutes.
Prize : Winner will hold the Elsie Ashley Trophy for one year.
Class 6. Verse Speaking - 9 years
Test Piece : “The Painting Lesson” by Trevor Harvey [One Hundred Best Poems for Children]
Prize : Winner will hold the Caroline West Trophy for one year.
Class 7. Verse Speaking - 9 years
Test Piece : Own choice, not to exceed 3 minutes.
Prize : Winner will hold the Radio Stoke Trophy for one year.
Class 8. Verse Speaking - 10 years
Test Piece : “Homework” by Elizabeth Smith [One Hundred Best Poems for Children]
Prize : Winner will hold the Dan Ashley Memorial Trophy for one year.
