California Election Results Bring Major Change

California Election Results Bring Major Change
In an election characterized by observers as reflecting voters’ desire for change, California
voters turned out in record numbers this week. CCA’s initiative review committee had
recommended positions on a number of items on the ballot.
Results on those items are as follows:
Proposition 2: Standards for Confining Farm Animals
Passed: 63%- 36% -- CCA opposed
Proposition 7: Renewable Energy Generation
Failed: 35% - 65% -- CCA Opposed
Proposition 10: Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Renewable Energy Bonds
Failed: 40% - 60% -- CCA Opposed
Proposition 11: Redistricting
Tentatively Passed: 50% - 49% -- CCA Supported
In addition to the ballot measures, there were changes in the State Assembly and the State
Senate. In the Assembly, Republicans have lost three races in districts that they have
historically been deemed Republican seats. In the 15th Assembly District, Democrat Joan
Buchanan beat Republican Abram Wilson 52.9% to 47.1%, this seat was formally held by
Republican Guy Houston.
In the 78th Assembly District, Democrat Martin Block defeated Republican John McCann
55% to 45%, this seat was formally held by Republican Shirley Horton. In the 80th Assembly
District, Democrat Manuel Perez defeated Republican Gary Jeandron 52.9% to 47.1% this
seat was held by Republican Bonnie Garcia. In the race watch the 30th Assembly District
typically held by the Democrats, it looks like Republican Danny Gilmore has defeated
Democrat Fran Florez, mother of Democrat Senator Dean
