CHICAGO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, Inc. (NHS), the City
of Chicago and Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, Inc. (ATG) are co-sponsoring a free “Fix Your Mortgage”
foreclosure prevention event on Chicago’s Southwest Side to help homeowners at risk of foreclosure modify their
loans and lower their payments.
The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, June 5, at Curie Metro High School, 4959 S.
Archer Ave.
In the first quarter of 2010, the City of Chicago and Cook County had 4,995 and 10,449 new foreclosures filings,
respectively. According to the Woodstock Institute, data collected from the first quarter of 2010 shows “little year-
over-year change in the number of new foreclosure filings from the first quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010.”
“Although we are seeing a slight decline in new foreclosure filings, the City of Chicago saw a 113 percent increase in
completed foreclosure auctions from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010,” explained Ellen
Sahli, first deputy commissioner, Chicago Department of Community Development. “It is more important now than
ever for homeowners to attend these events and utilize our free loan modifications services.”
According to a recent report issued by the Woodstock Institute, “The vast majority of properties that go to
foreclosure auction become lender-owned, or Real Estate Owned (REO). In the first quarter of 2010, 95.1 percent
of Chicago-area properties that completed a foreclosure auction entered REO status.”
