CONDITIONS FOR THE IMPORTATION INTO THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES OF
EUROPEAN UNION ORIGIN HORSES THAT ARE IN THE UNITED STATES (U.S.) AND
THAT RECENTLY ENTERED THE U.S. TO COMPETE IN GRADED RACES
1.
Permission to import must be obtained from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of
Agriculture and Fisheries, Animal Welfare Department (MAF/AWD) before shipment.
2.
To obtain an Import Permit, a fully completed Import Permit Application must be submitted
to the UAE MAF/AWD [Fax: (00971) 4 3313322 or (00971) 4 3325464]. At UAE
MAF/AWD’s discretion, copies of test results and proof of vaccinations may also be
requested.
3.
The horse must be subjected to tests for the following diseases with negative results (see
attached Model Health Certificate for details):
i.
Equine infectious anemia.
ii.
Equine viral arteritis (where appropriate - see attached Model Health Certificate for
options). [Note: This requirement is applicable only to uncastrated male animals
over 180 days of age.]
iii.
Vesicular stomatitis (where appropriate - see attached Model Health Certificate for
options).
The above tests are to be carried out in a laboratory approved for that purpose by the United
States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
4.
Vaccinations
All horses must be fully vaccinated against equine influenza - see attached Model Health
Certificate for details. [Note: Where a booster only is entered, certified proof of
previous vaccinations must accompany the health certificate.]
5.
West Nile fever – Horses that are resident in States where West Nile virus has been found
require additional certification - see attached Model Health Certificate for details.
6.
When horses are sent to the UAE, they must be accompanied by an official health certificate
issued by a veterinarian approved by the USDA to carry out export certification and
