Title of the project activity:

A.2. Description of the project activity:
>> Minerales Monclova S.A. DE C.V. is the largest coal producer in Mexico. The company’s mining
area is situated in Coahuila state, mainly over the Sabinas and Rosita basin, across 7 operational mines.
The coal production in 2005 was 2.8 million tonnes and 4 million in 2006. The mined coal is entirely
used by Altos Hornos de Mexico for the production of steel.
The three mines for this project activity are Mine 5 ‘La Esmeralda’, Mine 6 and Mine 7. Mine 5 and 6
are situated in Sabinas basin whilst Mine 7 is situated in Saltillito basin all in Coahuila state.
