Entertainment Leaders Support National Lab Day in Washington, DC
Members of The Creative Coalition join National Lab Day
Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 13, 2010 -- Yesterday, members of The Creative Coalition partnered with
National Lab Day (NLD) for a series of events highlighting the importance of student-learning through discovery
and exploration, particularly in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education at three schools
throughout the Washington, D.C. area. The Creative Coalition was represented by actors Rachel Leigh Cook
(“Nancy Drew”), James Kyson-Lee (“Heroes”) and Erin Cummings.
Yesterday’s NLD events marked the kickoff of a year-round nationwide effort to bring hands-on learning to
students working on STEM projects by collaborating with experts (scientists, engineers, architects, etc.) who
currently working in those fields.
The partnering organizations visited three schools in the Washington, D.C. area to demonstrate their support for
STEM subjects and to take part in hands-on learning activities. The Creative Coalition is spearheading a
campaign to use the arts to make the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math more appealing to
students.
The Creative Coalition and The National Lab Day organization share a strong belief that learning – whether in
the arts or in the technical fields – is best achieved through a hands-on approach. Investigation and examination
leads to creativity and invention.
"The arts and sciences have been intertwined since Hippocrates wrote his oath. One discipline cannot exist
without the other,” said Robin Bronk, CEO of the Creative Coalition, “It has been The Creative Coalition's great
privilege to be a part of National Lab Day and play a role in enabling the arts to bring students' attention to the
wonder of the sciences. Our next generation of world leaders must have the resources at hand to ensure that both
their 'left' and 'right' brains flourish."
