Summary of Exodus Chapters 11 – 20
Chapter 11: Moses had become great in the eyes of Pharaoh's servants and the Egyptian people. He told Pharaoh that
God would go out into the midst of Egypt and slay all the first born of man and beast, but that none of the firstborn of the
Israelites would die , that Pharaoh would know that God put a difference between the Egyptians and the Israelites. Pharaoh
then leaves in great anger from before Pharaoh.
Chapter 12: The LORD gives Moses and Aaron instructions for the Passover which is to be held in the first month of
the Jewish year, (which the LORD proclaims this to be, the Month of Abib.) as an everlasting memorial. He gives them a
strong prohibition against eating leavened bread during the passover saying that they must put all leaven out of their
houses on the first day of the Passover month. The elders were to pass on the regulations of the Passover service on to the
people of Israel who would then pass it on to their children unto all generations forever. At midnight God killed all the
first born of the Egyptians both of man and of beast. This convinced Pharaoh to send for Moses and Aaron in the middle
of the night and tell them that they could go with all that they owned, and then he asked Moses to bless him. The
Egyptians were in great fear and they urged the Israelites to go, lending then what ever they required such as Jewels of
Gold, and of Silver and Raiment. About sixhundred thousand Israeli men, as well as women and children left Israel. A
multitude of Egyptians and other races also accompanied them. From the day that Joseph had settled his father Jacob in
the Land of Goshen until the night of the Passover, exactly fourhundred and thirty years had passed.
Chapter 13: The LORD commanded Moses to sanctify all the first born of the Israelites unto him, of man and of
