Introduction to Conscious Giving
Though most of us want to genuinely give gifts with meaning and thought
behind them, in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, many of us end up taking
short cuts and just buy something we grab off the shelf.
Or if you're like I used to be, you become VERY good at finding large boxes and
filling each one with a different gift certificate. :)
Over time, this lack of conscious attention to our giving takes its toll on us as a
slight nudge inside encouraging us to find another solution. The challenge is,
sometimes it's not realistic for us to spend the hours, days, or even weeks it may
take us to discover the perfect gifts for the people we care about. That's where

So what exactly is a "conscious" gift?
Let’s look at the actual definition of conscious according to The American
Heritage Dictionary:
1. Having an awareness of one's environment and one's own existence,
sensations, and thoughts.
2. Mentally perceptive or alert; awake.
3. Capable of thought, will, or perception.
4. Subjectively known or felt.
5. Intentionally conceived or done; deliberate.
6. Inwardly attentive or sensible; mindful.
7. Especially aware of or preoccupied with.
At least these standard definitions of "conscious" make it clear that as long as
our gift is being given with intention and forethought, and within the context of the
people and environment we
