CANTER (Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses) Illinois announces it will
hold its 2nd Annual CANTER Open Benefit and Fun Show at Valley View Acres, 5116 Mt. Thabor Rd.,
Woodstock, IL on Sunday, June 13th, 9:00 am.

homes for retiring Thoroughbreds. This is a casual, fun show intended to give riders and horses show
experience in a relaxed, safe environment.
As exciting and glamorous as the sport of horse racing is, few people stop to think about what happens to
the athletes after their careers have peaked. Like any other professional athlete, a racehorse's career
success is dependent on its youth, athletic ability and physical soundness. As any athlete ages, whatever
the species, injuries become more frequent and more debilitating. And many sound horses are retired
from racing simply because it's not the right job for them.
CANTER Illinois Executive Director, Denise Pumfrey explains “Think of CANTER as an outplacement
service for racehorses. Many just need to be re-trained for new jobs like pleasure riding, hunting and
dressage. Even racehorses who have had career-ending injuries can maintain soundness as pleasure
mounts.”
CANTER is a completely volunteer-run organization, and 100% of the Benefit Show funds go directly to
helping provide veterinary care, food, board, transportation, and other transition costs for horses that need
