Coolibar's School Sun Hat Program Awarded Prestigious Gold Triangle from
the American Academy of Dermatology
Third recognition for Coolibar by the AAD for raising public awareness of dermatology and sun
safety.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 15, 2010 -- The American Academy of Dermatology (the Academy) will
present the 2010 Gold Triangle Awards during its 68th Annual Meeting in Miami Beach. The Coolibar School
Sun Hat Program is one of 49 winners being recognized for excellence in furthering public understanding of
dermatologic issues.
"The Academy commends each of our Gold Triangle Award winners for their efforts to increase public
awareness of dermatology, encourage healthy behaviors in the care of their skin, hair and nails, and educate the
public about the expert care of a dermatologist," said dermatologist David M. Pariser, MD, FAAD, president of
the American Academy of Dermatology. "These programs and initiatives have the potential to improve the quality
of life for numerous individuals affected by dermatologic conditions."
The Coolibar School Sun Hat Program was introduced as part of Coolibar's SunAWARE educational efforts.
School sun hats are incorporated under "W"- Wear sun protective clothing, including a hat with a three inch brim
and sunglasses.
In an effort to make sun hats more affordable and accessible to schools, the program offers UPF 50+ hats at a
substantial discount. A school sun hat contest giveaway and children's video were created to further the
SunAWARE message. The goal of the program is to equip youth in the U.S. with sun hats and bring attention to
the importance of SunAWARE practices for skin cancer prevention. Dermatologist, Dr. Jaime Davis, of Uptown
Dermatology in Minneapolis, MN, said, "The Coolibar School Sun Hat Program is an excellent way to keep
children safe from the sun while playing outside during their school day. The hats provide superior sun
protection, the kids love to wear them, and they are adorable. All schools should implement sun safety education,
