The audit profession today is faced with
significant challenges. Most business
processes are highly automated resulting in
the need for auditors to use a variety of
computer skills and tests. Historically, a
small portion of specialist auditors (about 5
- 10%) undertake 90 - 95% of the analytical
audit tests performed. This group making
up 5 - 10% of all auditors are highly trained
specialists, few in number and costly to
employ and train. Often, the software tools
they utilize are costly as well.
Most audit staff do not perform audit analytics on their own for one or more of
the following reasons:
•
Insufficient training
•
Lack of easy to use software tools
•
Too little time
•
Uncomfortable with computer usage
This guide presents an alternative for consideration by those organizations who
want to streamline, simplify and improve the data analysis process for the 90 -
95% of auditors who perform limited data analytics. A process is described
whereby most auditors, with relatively little training or computer expertise, can
perform significant audit analytics in a reasonable time frame. These audit
analytics should improve audit quality and performance for the following
