When Evie Walker goes home to spend time with her dying father, she discovers that his
creaky old house in Hope’s Fort, Colorado is not the only legacy she stands to inherit. Hidden
behind the old basement door is a secret and magical storeroom where wondrous treasures
from myth and legend are kept safe unit they are needed again. The magic of the storeroom
prevents access to any who are not intended to use the items.
Evie must guard the storeroom against ancient and malicious forces, protecting the past and
the future even as the present unravels around them. Old heroes and notorious villains alike
will rise to fight on her side or to undermine her most desperate gambits. At stake is the fate
of the world, and the prevention of nothing less than the apocalypse.
Discord's Apple is my introduction to Carrie Vaughn & I was apprehensive at the amount of
polarized reviews this book had. I tried it because of its Greek mythological aspect as I'm a
sucker for it. DA begins a near distant future wherein much of the world is in state of or-
ganized chaos. Evie Walker is a comic book writer who is scripting a series about a military
team whose actions mirror those in the real world. Also distinguishing about her background
is the fact that President also knows about her and has commended her past.
She returns back to her home town as her Dad is slowly losing his battle with the grim reaper
& now wants to pass on the mantle to her. What she does not realize is this means stewardship
of a special room which houses certain very very special artifacts. Inserted in this tale is also
the story of a certain Greek warrior who caused the fall of Troy with his words.
Weaving Greek mythology within contemporary settings, Carrie Vaughn has written a very
delectable story which though very fast paced yet manages to slow the reader with its intrica-
cies. I read it in almost one setting & will definitely be checking out her other books based on
what I saw of her writing in this one.
