Description
Ethylchloroformate is a colorless liq-
uid. It is miscible with almost all
common aprotic organic solvents but
immiscible with water. Hydrolyses in
the presence of water.
Safety
Ethylchloroformate is corrosive to the
skin and eyes. Inhalation of vapors or
mists may irritate the respiratory tract.
Always refer to the Material Safety
Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed infor-
mation on safety.
Applications
Intermediate used in the production of:
• peroxide compounds
• dye compounds
• pharmaceuticals
• pesticides
Packaging
Available in 440 lb (net weight) nonre-
turnable steel drum with polyethylene
liners.
Storage & Handling
Ethylchloroformate has a limited shelf
life even in unopened, original contain-
ers. It must be protected from
moisture, air, light and heat. It is nei-
ther explosive nor spontaneously
flammable in air. However, it is com-
bustible, malodorous, corrosive and
toxic.
Always refer to the Material Safety
Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed infor-
mation on handling and disposal.
