Eugene Water & Electric Board
Solar Electric Program
2009 Program Information
Everyone knows Eugene gets its share of cloudy days, but did you know that on an annual
basis, Eugene receives about the same solar radiation as the national average for the US?
Using photovoltaic (PV) panels and inverters, that sunlight can be turned directly into electricity
to help power your home or business and, in some cases, generate enough power to send the
excess back through your meter to EWEB.
EWEB’s Solar Electric Program allows you to produce clean, renewable power at your home or
business and help EWEB decrease the amount of power it purchases from non-renewable
sources.
How can you participate?
Net Metered Systems
If the PV system is installed on your side of EWEB’s electric meter, the electricity will
flow first to serve your loads. If your electric usage is greater than the PV system can
produce, the rest is supplied by EWEB. When your usage is less than your PV system
generates, the excess electricity flows through your electric meter into the EWEB
electrical grid. EWEB will record the generation you supply to EWEB and credit your bill
for any generation in excess of what you use. You retain the renewable energy credits
(RECS).
Pay-for-Performance Generation Systems
For systems larger than 10,000 watts, you have the option to connect your system
directly to the EWEB grid and sell all the electricity it generates to EWEB. EWEB will
install a dedicated meter and will contract with you to purchase all of the electricity
generated. If you have electric usage at your site, all of it will be supplied by EWEB
through your existing meter. EWEB retains the renewable energy credits.
How does EWEB help financially?
Net Metered Systems
Residential systems: $2.00 per AC output watt up to $10,000
Commercial systems: $1.00 per AC output watt up to $25,000
All incentives are based on the electrical out
