The Possibilities of the Silicon Wristband
Silicon wristbands started their popularity in the early 2000s with Lance Armstrong's "LIVESTRONG" band. This simple yellow wristband gave hope to
people in health crisis, becoming a mantra, of sorts. The wristband gave daily encouragement to those in pain as well as to those who wanted to
achieve in life.
The bands quickly gained popularity in other venues. Due to the many celebrities who wore these for their individual causes, they have become
fashionable and trendy. Supporting a cause, giving some encouragement, or providing advertisement, these wristbands soon were seen on athletes
and other role models as well as many of the general population.
These bands are a very economical way of showing support. A company can make thousands of these for a minimal investment and give them out in
order to promote their program, or they can be sold for a small price in order to raise funds.
Custom made bands are a cost-effective way to support a one time occasion. This may be a school competition where the administration wants to
show support for this accomplishment. School spirit is promoted when school colors are worn on the wrists of the students.
Custom bands are not just for school organizations. Companies use them in conjunction with a rally or an organizational event. Police have used them
to promote safety for children.
Coming a long way from the simple yellow "LIVESTRONG" band, silicone wristbands now come in a rainbow of colors and almost as many styles.
Screen printing allows the band to have a company logo, or a school mascot. This can also be used in combination with embossing. Embossing is
made using a mold that, very much like the "LIVESTRONG" band, cuts the words into the silicon. These words can also be filled in with a different
color, giving an interesting effect. Laser cutting is also a popular design form.
Silicone wristbands are durable and flexible. They are one size fits all. Creating a long lasting endorsement on a wrist, they can conform to whatever
