The powertrain is so self-sufficient, it actually recharges itself. The 2.5L I-4 Atkinson-cycle
engine works with the electric traction motor to move you with 177 net hp. When you apply
the brakes during normal driving, the Regenerative Braking process captures kinetic energy
from your braking to recharge the 330-volt battery pack. The battery pack then supplies
energy to start the engine and to drive in 100% electric mode up to 44 mph. When
passing or merging, hybrid drive mode delivers an extra power boost for lively acceleration
performance while still delivering lower average fuel costs. It’s the best of both worlds.
