president of the American Bar
Association as Chair of the
ABA Task Force on Terrorism
and the Law, a group of
lawyers from around the country which advised executive, legislative
and local leaders on legal issues involving this highly complex issue.

Clifford Law Offices was named the city’s top law firm in the Chicago Lawyer’s Annual
Settlement Survey for 2002. It led with $136.85 million in 24 settlements. Robert A.
Clifford was singled out as the leading individual attorney with the highest total dollar
figure in settlements totaling $77.32 million. Among those were a $35 million settle-
ment in the Rachel Barton case, an internationally-acclaimed violinist who was severely
injured in a train accident, and a $22 million settlement in a product liability case
involving the rollover of an SUV. Kevin Durkin was cited for settling seven million-dollar- p l u s
cases for the year, the largest number of any attorney in Cook County listed in the survey.

Kevin Durkin has been named a member of the Steering Committee for the
October 31, 2000 air crash involving Singapore Airlines Flight 006 in Taipei,
Taiwan, as well as for American Airlines Flight 587 that crashed in Belle Harbor,
New York, November 12, 2001, killing 260 people.
Richard Burke served as Co-Chair of the Investi-
gation Division of the Chicago Bar Association’s
Judicial Evaluation committee this year. This group
conducted extensive evaluations of judicial candidates
seeking office as well as those seeking
