2008 RELOCATION CHECKLIST
NEW STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRE
___ Please fill out attached “New Student Questionnaire” and return it to our office via email or fax at your
earliest convenience. This will help us to plan for your arrival and assist with you with your relocation needs.
VISA
___ I-20 presented to local consulate for issuance of F-1 visa. Consult our web page if you are not certain about
location of nearest embassy. You should confirm with the local consulate as soon as possible the policies and
procedures for the issuance of student visas.
___ Upon arrival in Miami, you must bring your passport, I-20 and I-94 forms to our office and the Office of
International Student and Scholar Services so that we can place a photocopy in your file.
TRAVEL
___ Arrange travel to Miami.
___ Email your arrival information (arrival date, airline, flight # and airport) to intl-llm@law.miami.edu.
___ Reserve lodging and car for first few days. See website for some suggestions on area hotels
(www.law.miami.edu/ifp/new). You should do this as soon as possible as many other students will also be
relocating during this season.
___ Shop and pack for the Miami climate, which is tropical. Miami's average temperatures are 21º/28º C
(69º/83º F). In the summer, temperatures will reach highs in the low 90'sº F, and will fall only to about 75º F at
night. During the coolest months, temperatures will reach highs of about 75º F, and average about 68º F. There
may be a few winter days when temperatures drop to 40º F at night. Thus, you should bring a sweater or jacket
with you, as well as a warm blanket for your room. The dress is generally casual, although you will want at least
one suit for interviews and alumni events and one outfit (nice dress or suit) for parties and receptions.
___ You should be able to use bank card to exchange cash in Automatic Teller Machines (ATM’s). However,
you may wish to exchange some local currency into US Dollars
