However, in using college search engines to see my options, it really lowers my results
incredibly when I search for journalism as my only major option. What other majors help you
work as a writer, for example, in newspapers or magazines? In other words, what else should I be
looking for in order to broaden my search beyond just flat-out journalism? A communication
Uncle Phil Says:
A lot schools put journalism under the ‘communications’ department. So you’d end up with a
degree in communications with an emphasis on journalism.
That said, a lot of journalists majored in a subject area that they were interested in (i.e., politics,
english, literature, etc.) and minored in journalism.
