Candidate Forum Update
By JW Pope, Forum Coordinator
A few weeks ago the Community Issues
Team of Bell Shoals Baptist Church mailed
out invitations to every candidate running for elected office in
Hillsborough County to attend our upcoming Candidate Fo-
rum on August 12, 2008. As the coordinator for this season's
forum, I want to make sure that you, our church family, have
received your invitation to attend.
If this is the first time you are learning about our Candidate
Forum and you would like a little background on our event,
let me just say that the Community Issues Team of Bell
Shoals Baptist Church has been hosting the Candidate Fo-
rum every election since 1994, but our involvement with civic
education within the community extends beyond this event.
Monthly Meeting
July 13th is the date for the next Community Is-
sues Team meeting. You are welcome to join us
as we are putting together the final plans for the
Candidate Forum to be held on August 12th. The
meeting follows the 11:00 AM Worship Service in
the MPC building and a pizza lunch is provided.

The Community Issues Team also offers a weekly civics
course on Wednesday evenings, providing our congregation
with current information about a variety of issues or topics
impacting the community through the monthly newsletter you
are reading now, as well as providing other resources
throughout the year as the needs arise.
The Community Issues Team has emphasized and encour-
aged the participation of middle school aged students and
above in this Candidate Forum in an effort to get them ex-
cited and involved in the electoral process. We are expecting
the Supervisor of Elections Office to be on hand to help reg-
ister new voters, answer questions about the new optical
voting machines and help established voters with any elec-
tion-related needs they may have.
