Subject: Carbon Dioxide Extinguisher Valve Removal/Installation Tool
Badger has received several requests for assistance with the development of a special service tool
adapter to better address the field removal and installation of carbon dioxide hand portable fire
Badger is pleased to announce the introduction of the new CO2 extinguisher valve removal/installation
tool for the B5V, B10V, B15V and B20V Badger hand portable models. This new valve adapter is
designed to accommodate a standard ½ inch drive torque wrench and is available under Badger part
Per the instructions contained within Badger’s “Carbon Dioxide Hand Portable Fire Extinguisher Service
Manual” (P/N-24644) the carbon dioxide fire extinguisher cylinder valve installation thread torque should
not exceed 100 foot pounds. The recommended carbon dioxide cylinder valve installation torque into
Badger aluminum fire extinguisher cylinders should be between 60 to 100 foot pounds.
Badger recommends the valve stem (P/N-20981) and neck collar o-ring (P/N-16464) be replaced with
new, whenever carbon dioxide fire extinguisher valve assemblies are removed from the cylinder. Prior to
cylinder installation, the valves external cylinder threads and neck collar o-ring should also be lightly
lubricated with Dow-111 .
