A natural-looking sunless glow takes a little preparation beforehand. I’ll start at the very beginning
of the self-tanning routine, and walk you through our tips and tricks of the trade to ensure your
sunless tan looks fresh for as long as possible.
I always recommend all-natural exfoliating products. Salt and sugar scrubs are easy to find
and come in a variety of scents. If you find those to be too abrasive for your skin, look for
an exfoliant that contains almond, coffee grounds, oats, or clays.
One that I like to use is from Raw Sugar. It is inexpensive and you can buy it at Target.
Exfoliate your body from head to toe in a hot shower. Be gentle on your face and don’t
forget to do between your fingers and toes. Wash as you normally would after exfoliating.
Finish your shower with luke-warm to cold water to close up your pores!
Organic and all-natural lotions are the best choices for a moisturizer. Stay away from
products that contain mineral oil because it will strip the self-tan from your skin more quickly.
And remember to find a product that will agree with your face (whether you have oily or dry
skin), and one that will be great for your body.
Moisturizing after using your self-tanner is vital as well. When you keep your sunless tan
hydrated, it looks more natural and will glow for longer. Your body will appreciate the extra
hydration and you will feel more comfortable with your tan.
Exfoliating your skin before using a self-tanner is vital to
keeping your tan fresh. This means shaving too! When
you scrub away dead skin cells, you are awakening your
skin and pores to create new skin growth! Exfoliating also
helps to wash away dirt, oil and residue left on your skin
from other products, like deodorants, lotions, body
Keeping your skin hydrated is an important step in the self-
tanning process. Nourished, silky skin is happy, healthy skin.
When you moisturize, be sure to concentrate on the typically dry
areas of your skin, such as your knees, elbows, hands and feet.
