CITY ENGINEER
DEFINITION
To plan, direct, supervise and review the City's construction, engineering design, parking and
traffic operations activities and the construction maintenance and operation of the City's Water to
provide professional and technical staff assistance; and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the Director of Public Works.
Exercises direct supervision over professional, technical and clerical staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop, plan, and implement goals and objectives; recommend and administer policies and
procedures.
Supervise, coordinate and review all public works engineering activities in- cluding engineering
design, inspection and survey, contract administration, water quality treatments and disposal
operations, traffic engineering and field operations.
Coordinate with Community Development Department and planning process to monitor private
developments provision of land division records and to determine adequate facilities and funds for
addition of the necessary improvements to the Public Work's infrastructure to service the project
proposed.
Direct the development of the Division's work plan; resolve work problems and interpret
administrative policies; assign work activities, projects and programs; review and evaluate work
products, methods, and procedures.
Supervise and participate in the development and administration of the division's capital and
operating budgets; direct the forecast of additional funds needed for construction, staffing,
equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement mid-year
adjustments.
