FAMILY EUCNEMIDAE
(False click beetles)
Y. Bousquet
Twenty-seven species of eucnemids have been reported for Canada and Alaska. The adults occur mainly on vegetation and under bark but
are rather infrequently collected. The larvae bore into various hardwoods, usually rotten ones. Like elaterids, adults have the clicking
mechanism but few species have been actually observed to click.
The taxonomy of the North American species of Eucnemidae has been poorly studied and many changes and additions to the Canadian
fauna can be expected. The last revision of the family is that of Horn (1886).
