Subject: Company Values
This year marks our company’s 30th anniversary. Since 1978, Prison Health Services
has been dedicated to providing vital public health services to incarcerated patients in
communities throughout America. For those who have committed their skills to this
challenging endeavor, this is a high calling. Throughout the years, regardless of the
changing circumstances of the company and its market place, our fundamental values
have remained the same. These values are to provide good clinical care to our patients
and conduct our business honestly.
We treat our patients with dignity and respect. Special trust and responsibilities apply,
because our patients often have no alternatives if we don’t address their medical needs.
Only qualified clinicians are authorized to make medical decisions. We are proud of our
doctors, nurses, and other caregivers. We respect their independent professional
judgment. They are paid competitive market rates. No financial incentives are available
to clinicians based upon medical utilization. We never improperly delay or deny
medical care for financial reasons. Time and time again, our Company has
demonstrated by its’ actions and the financial results of certain contracts that earnings
can be lost, but our patients must always receive necessary medical attention. There
shall be no compromise of this essential principle. Still adhering to this principle, over
time we have managed to produce a modest operating surplus and shareholder returns.
Our Company is deeply committed to conducting business honestly. Once again, a
special responsibility applies, because we are entrusted, even indirectly, with public
funds. We expect to be under a higher level of scrutiny and we have nothing to hide.
