O n November 4,
2008, history was
made in the United
States as the nation
elected its first African
-American President.

astounding 53 % of
votes compared
to
4 6 %
f o r
t h e
Republican Nominee,
Sen. John McCain.
This means he won in states that had
never voted for a democrat for president
since 1964 when President Johnson was
elected. Some of these states include
Indiana and North Carolina.
The President-elect inspired millions of
American through his message of hope and
change. He also inspired millions around
the world especially Africa where he is
considered one of its own. His father is
from Kenya and his mother is a white
woman from Kansas. Millions rejoiced in
the United States and the world when it
was announce on CNN, a cable television
news outlet, that Sen. Barack Obama will
be the 44th President of the United States.
His inauguration is schedule on January
20, 2009.
On January 21, 2009, the real work for
which Sen. Obama was elected as
President begins. The United States is
presently undergoing serious
financial
crisis with un-employment at its highest
since 1992. The national unemployment
rate in the U.S is 6.7%. This is the highest
in fourteen years. Each week more
Americans are filing for job claims benefits.
The nation’s
infrastructures are
in
shamble, the U.S trade deficit is at the

President Siah Fallah Brown promised to
unite the community. Her administration
designed a plan that was more inclusive. The
theme was to have everyone involved in the
Liberian association’s activities and to also
encourage the entire Liberian community in
Indianapolis
to
fully participate and
contribute meaningfully to the strength and
growth of the organization. The Liberian
Women group was re-organized through the
Concern Women Group (CWG) based on the
South-side. Members of the community are
