CREATION OF THE CORPORATION
SECTION 1 . The following persons: Henry Francis duPont, Winter-
thur, Delaware; Deane W aldo Malott, Ithaca, New York; Horace
Marden Albr ight , Los Angeles, California; Rober t Aller ton, Kauai,
Hawaii; and Paul Bigelow Sears, New Haven, Connecticut; and their
successo rs, are hereby created and declared to be a body corporate
by the name of Pac i fi c Trop ical Botanical Garden (hereinafter
r e f e rr ed t o as t h e “corpor ati on ” ) and b y such name shall be known
a n d have perpetual succession and the powers, limitations, and restr ic-
t ion herein contained.
COMPLETION OF ORGANIZATION
SEC. 2. The persons named in section 1 shall be the incorporators of
the corporation and members of the initial board of trustees and are
author ized to complete the organization of the corporation by the
select ion of other trustees and officers, the adoption of bylaws, not
inconsistent with this Act, and the doing of such other acts necessa ry
to carry into effect the provisions of this Act.
OBJECTS AND PURPOSES OF CORPORATION
SEC. 3. The objects and purposes of the corporation shall be—
(a) to establish , develop , operate, and main tain for the benefit
o f the people of the United States an educational and scient if ic
center in the form of a tropical botan ical garden or gardens,
toge ther with such facilities as libraries, herbaria, laboratories, and
museu m s which are appropriate and neces sary for encouraging
a n d conduct ing research in basic and appl ied tropical botany;
(b) to foster and encourage fundamental research with respect
to trop ical p l an t life and to encourage research and study of the
u ses of tropical flora
