ALBERTA STUDENT LOAN
Am I eligible?
The Alberta Student
Loan Relief Program
offers two separate
payments at two points
in your studies. To be
eligible for the first
payment, known as the
Alberta Student Loan Relief
Benefit, you must:
• be a first-time, first-year,
student. You cannot have
attended another program
or another post-secondary
• have accumulated more than
$7,140 in a year or $3,570 in a
semester in Alberta Student Loans
or combined Alberta and Canada
Student Loans issued by Alberta.
To be eligible for the second payment,
known as the Loan Relief Program
Completion Payment, you must:
• have completed (graduated or left) your
full-time studies. There is a question on
your student financial assistance applica-
tion where you can indicate that you are
in your last year of studies.
• have an Alberta Student Loan
• have exceeded the minimum debt
level for your program

The Loan Relief Program Completion Payment will
still be paid automatically; however, not until at least
6 months after your last month of studies. You can
avoid the minimum 6-month waiting period by mail-
ing in the application.

Payment are available online.
The Alberta Student Loan Relief Program provides qualified students with a finan-
cial boost in their first year and a helping hand when it comes time to pay back their
student loans. This is a provincial program that does not replace funds under the
Canada Student Loan program.
