Reflections on October—
Looking Forward to the Future
By Jim Hieb, Club President
In the Oberlin Rotary club, we seldom look back on our
accomplishments—we are too focused on the future. We started the
year with many goals in mind. These goals focus on the future. Yet,
I do want to highlight a couple of accomplishments we had in
October. Reflection can also point us to the future!
Centennial Marker—thanks to the tireless work of Centennial
President Pat, Bert Locke, and many others, the Centennial Marker
has been placed in Martin Luther King Jr. Park. To some this might
seem trivial, but to many this marker sends a message of hope, love,
and service above self. A formal dedication ceremony is being
planned and we look forward to this event!
Auction Results—the preliminary results of our 13th Annual
Autumn Auction indicate that we will NET over $27,000. This is
the single best Oberlin auction ever! This is an incredible feat, and
the auction committee has now set a new bar for the future of Rotary
Auctions. Ronnie, John, Rex, and the host of other Rotary
volunteers have truly outdone themselves. I continue to be amazed
at the level in which this event has become a family of Rotary
activity. Whether it is Kim & Vesna helping capture all the bids,
Kent putting items together, or the countless spouses and family
members who help collect items to be auctioned. We owe them all a
big thank you! Plus, we look forward to the opportunity to make
an impact with the record proceeds from the auction.
