ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN SENIOR
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
GENERAL FUNCTION
Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of maps using Autocad, Arcinfo, and Arcview
software. Provides CAD and network management for operation of the Department LAN.
Prepares Civil Engineering drawing necessary to support the department’s mission. Under
general supervision leads and directs a survey crew.
REPRESENTATIVE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Note – This list is

Performs tie down for all new and old construction, underground utilities, houses, streets, power
poles, property lines, control points, and all surveying related work performed by the City;
profiles streets, curbs and gutters, sewer and water lines, and designs and maps for construction
drawings; prepares and verifies mathematical calculations related to surveying and basis
engineering; computes and adjusts angles, distances, bearings, traverses and elevations.
Maintains accurate survey and non-survey related records in the form of field notes, reports
sketches and utility location maps; interprets and computes field data; evaluates field data for
accuracy and completeness; reads and interprets blue prints for grading, construction and
location; tracks and maintains survey supplies such as stakes and marking equipment, maintains
vehicle supply of equipment and supplies; trains new employees and employees assigned to
assist in surveying activities.
Answers questions and provides information to the public concerning engineering activities;
participates in pre-construction and departmental meetings; meets with contractors in order to
provide survey requirements; plans and assigns work to lower level technicians in field survey;
participates in topographical and boundary surveys determining survey techniques to be
employed and the best means of obtaining accurate m
