ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I
Job Classification
GENERAL FUNCTION
Performs entry-level office and field engineering technician tasks to support utility operations
and engineering division activities.
REPRESENTATIVE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Note – This list is
intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of
specific statements does not exclude them from the position.)
Researches and compiles information for use in planning and implementing engineering projects,
such as gathering utility, right of way and property data.
Locates existing underground utilities using engineering records.
Assists in providing cost estimates and assists the public in completing permit applications.
Collects data from engineering records or in the field for use in project reports, diagrams, or
displays.
Performs basic autocad drafting assignments to assist with the development, design, and
construction of public works improvements.
Operates machines to reproduce engineering prints and documents.
Maintains files and records of engineering projects.
Assists the survey crew as required.

• Basic civil engineering practices and principles.
• Algebra, geometry.
