CANISIUS COLLEGE ANNUAL REPORT OF DONORS 2008-2009 Annual Report of Donors
The 2008-2009 presented unique challenges to Canisius
College. The onset of a worldwide recession and the
meltdown in the global financial market created much fear
and uncertainty. It was a difficult time to be speaking with
alumni, friends, corporations and foundations about gifts
to Canisius College.
Yet, amidst the dark financial clouds, the Canisius family
came through. The college received $13.4 million in
voluntary support last year, its second best year ever after
its record-setting 2007-2008 results. You have made
Canisius College a priority for your philanthropy and for
that, we are very grateful. Here are some highlights:
The Annual Fund campaign wrapped up on May 31
with a record $2,646,212 in pledges and gifts- in-kind
from a total of 8,856 donors. We lost very few donors,
a remarkable testament to the loyalty of Canisius alumni
Our Leadership Society with gifts of $1000 or more,
accounted for $1,452,029, or 55 percent of the Annual
Fifteen new endowments were created for scholarship and
academic needs. That brings to nearly 400 the number of
endowed funds at the college.
Finally, A Legacy of Leadership: The Campaign for Canisius
College ended the year at $66 million in cash and pledges
toward its $90 million goal.
We have elected this year to publish our Annual Report
of Donors electronically to conserve resources and paper,
allow us to correct mistakes that inevitably occur on a
compilation such as this, and to provide a wider distribution
of the great news of the generosity of Canisius alumni and
friends. Please let us have your comments.
