WELCOME TO METROPOLIS PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE’S STORIES IN ACTION PROGRAM
The Metropolis Education department has constructed this program in order to serve
your schools and the community at large. We are excited to collaborate with you in order
to enhance your students’ potential for learning. We believe that theatre can serve as a
strong supplement to instruction, adding a visual, aural, and entertaining element that
can enhance each student’s ability to absorb and understand reading material in a fuller
We are delighted that you are joining us for our production of A Christmas Carol and
we look forward to seeing you! Please call Alyse Perkowitz, our group sales manager, at

This study guide is intended to facilitate your theater-going experience and provide you
with project suggestions. The first section is intended for teacher use, while the latter
section is designed for you to photocopy and hand out to your students. The costume and
make-up design pages can be used for characters of either gender. Within the curriculum
suggestions, we attempt to explain some theatre terms so this guide may be used by anyone.
This guide can be used as your students’ first introduction to A Christmas Carol, but the
material also allows for the possibility that students may have already read the story. We
have included a plot summary and a list of character descriptions because we believe those
students who have not yet read the story will still be able to reap the benefits of the projects.
After all school performances, there will be a 10-minute question/answer session with the
actors. Students are encouraged to ask questions about the show, the interpretation or the
acting in general. The show will run approximately two hours including this question/
answer session. More details will be available as the rehearsal process ensues.
We welcome your curriculum ideas and would love to share them. In addition, we’d
like your suggestions
