R aise your hand if you are one of those
Liberians who are thinking about
what Liberia can do for you instead of asking
your self what you can do for Liberia at this
time.
With just four and a half months since the
election was held in Liberia, some Liberians
living in the United States are now making
their way back home in order to continue
their old corrupt practices, the same behavior
that led to the destruction of our beloved
country. President elect, Mrs. Ellen Johnson-
Sirleaf in her inaugural speech, emphasized
that one of her major tasks is to minimize cor-
ruption if not eliminate it. She seeks to ap-
point qualified and competent Liberians in
various ministerial and managerial positions.
Recently, some Liberians living in the United
States, holding United States Passports, are
now sneaking their way to Liberia to seek
political office. It doesn't matter whether you
are a Naturalized American born in Liberia, if
you are still ambitious to hold political office
in Liberia, then denounce your citizenship and
go home.
On the other hand, qualified Liberians with
good ideas are now being trashed by the leg-
islature because of ideas emanating from
Liberians living in the United States. They
feel that those qualified Liberians were
not part of their political struggle and
should not be awarded with positions.
The law makers should know that ignor-
ing such problems will not make them go
away. Finding actual solutions is the
only way to rid Liberia of these problems
permanently. Observing the show going
on of “political jarring”, I thought about
how Liberia was ruled thirty years ago by
the True Whig Party. So say one.. So say
all.
I don’t want to be too negative and
judgmental about the future of Liberia,
but we Liberians should know now that
Liberia is no longer headed by the former
so-called Americo-Liberian
