JMG goes to Washington
Wednesday, December 5th, was overcast with heavy gray
skies. The mood in the St. Louis Airport presented a perfect
contrast. Six students from St. Francois county, all enrolled in
our regions’ JAG programs, were excited to be on their way to
the National Student Leadership Conference. Four had never
flown before or even been out of the state of Missouri; yet here
they were on their way to Washington, DC, the center of opera-
tion for one of the most powerful nations in the world.
For four days these students were given intensive Leadership Training, along with
Facing History and Ourselves sessions, tours of all of our National Monuments, an
afternoon to visit anywhere in the Smithsonian Institute,
and some of the finest dining experiences in the DC area.
The students jumped into these new experiences with an
eagerness and gusto. Five different leadership sessions
explored the facets involved in developing their own skills as
a leader and the part each individual plays in history.
Exposure to new and unique dining was a fun part of the
conference. The Marriott Gateway Crystal City’s chefs were
particularly impressive providing a wide variety of dining
