Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Job Description
Responsible To: Program Leader and Summer Camp Director
* Entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in fall of 2010

* Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
Minimum Qualifications:
To identify and meet campers’ needs
General Responsibility:
1.
Help guide cabin and/or small groups, and individual campers, in participating successfully in all aspects of camp
activities.
Specific Responsibilities:
2.
Identify needs of specific campers, and facilitate problem-solving.
3.
Set a good example for campers and others, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing duties during cabin cleanup,
sportsmanship and table manners.
4.
Recognize and respond to opportunities for teachable moments in the cabin group.
5.
Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and staff.
6.
Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during camp.
7.
Help each participant meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
8.
Help supervise all assigned aspects of the camper’s day, including morning wake-up, cabin cleanup, meal times,
daily and evening activities, and getting ready for bed.
9.
Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.
10. Monitor the whereabouts of assigned campers at all times.
11.
Help campers plan their participation in unit-wide or camp-wide programs, special events, and activities.
12.
Respect each camper for their uniqueness - within each group help create a community of people, understanding
and appreciating diversity, emphasizing communication and teamwork.
13.
Set an example for campers in areas of conservation (of water, supplies and other resources), recycling,
and respect for our natural surroundings.
Essential Functions:
