The following is a summary of the Bible story to help you with your preparation.
Please do NOT read to the children. Instead, study your Bible, using this summary as
a guide, and make a note page to help you remember your plans for the lesson or
questions you want to ask.
Do you remember studying Paul’s letter to Timothy last week? Well, Paul
wrote Timothy another letter and we call it Second Timothy. Paul wrote this letter
to Timothy about something called the gospel. Do you know what the gospel is?
It is the good news of God! What good news does God have for us? (He loves
us so much that He sent His Son to die for us.) Well, do you know of a place
where we have this good news, the gospel, written down? We have it all written
in the Bible. During the time of Paul and Timothy, only the first part of the Bible
(the Old Testament) was written down. And Paul didn’t know it then, but God
was using him to write part of the New Testament. Paul didn’t write letters just
because he wanted to say “Hello” to the people he missed. God gave him the
words to write, not just for the Colossians or Timothy, but for us also. There is a
verse in this book, Second Timothy, that says “Everything in the Scriptures is
God's Word.” This verse is Second Timothy 3:16 and it means that every word
that men wrote down many, many years ago to form the Bible were given to them
by God. Who knows how many books were written that form the Bible? (66)
