The Hoover Beautification Board sponsored tree plantings
and a celebration on Saturday, March 1 at Aldridge Gardens.
Councilman, Gene Smith, read the proclamation from Mayor
Tony Petelos. Fourth grade essay contest winners were
recognized and trees were given away for planting.

The 4th grade classes participated
in the reciting the Arbor Day
pledge. Ms. Karen Jackson organ-
ized the event. Mike Zarichnak
and Colin Conner assisted in the
planting of a tree.
Rocky Ridge Elementary
Mike Zarichnak, Hoover Beautification Board
President, assisted the 4th and 5th grades in the
planting of a blackgum tree. Ms Lori Corrigan,
the Enrichment teacher planned the program.
The National Anthem was sung and one student
read her essay about trees. The tree was named
Blackgum Bob.
Spain Park High School
Members of the Green Team planted an
overcup oak in honor of Arbor Day. The
Arbor Day pledge was recited and Colin
Conner, City Forester, helped plant the tree
and Pam Thompson, Beautification Board
member, shared thoughts about Arbor Day.
