NEWSLETTER OF THE LAKE EMERALD OWNERS ASSOCIATION
President’s Message
Fixing Our Lake
After over a year of preliminary study and preparation,
we are nearing the start date for restoring the shores of
our lake. It is with pleasure that I share with you the
following information received from Lake Restoration
Committee Chairperson, Hal Anderson.
We have completed numerous studies and design efforts
in order to apply to Broward County and the City of
Oakland Park for the necessary building permits for the
lake restoration. The permit applications for that project
were submitted to the City during the first week of March.
This is a major project involving the installation of
thousands of tons of fill and revetment wall and will
include restoration of the walkways and decks together
with lakeside landscaping where needed. Although no
visible work has yet begun, a partial list of the project
tasks already completed includes:
1. A complete and very accurate survey of our
property,
2. Biological studies to protect the wildlife in the
lake.
3. Plans to protect the wetlands area of the lake.
4. Detailed profiles of the lake bed.
5. Preliminary drawings of the docks and walkway
restoration.
6. Engineering drawings for the actual grading and
revetment.
Here’s a tentative schedule of the project. This schedule
is preliminary and depends, in large extent, on how
quickly the City and other agencies issue our building
permits.
